So, what are the benefits? Well, the benefits that interested me to go were:
Improve strength, flexibility and posture
Alleviate back pain and other muscular and ligament aliments - I suffer from back pain due to a terrible posture while sitting at a computer as I am sure many of you do too. We are often sitting down and 90% of that is due to the type of job we do. Sitting at a computer screen for 8-10 a day does no good what so ever for your posture, eyes and energy levels.
Reduce blood pressure
Reduce stress, anxiety and depression – yoga has been recommended to those that deal with high levels of stress on a daily basis, again coming back to your job. My friend was recommended the class as her job involved a lot of stress and at times it is hard for her to switch off and relax. Yoga has shown to reduce this stress.
Regulate attention and develop concentration
Improve mood, regulate emotion and induce positive thought
Connect with ourselves and others on a more meaningful level.
These are just some of the proven benefits of yoga that interested me to take it up, but the question is... were these benefits correct?
So, I guess you are waiting for my review hay? Well, I have only just done the one class and like I said it was a beginner class (which I highly recommend to do if it’s something you have never tried before and unsure what it involves). I was really unsure about it as I do enjoy a good workout and love to feel as though I have worked hard and I really felt yoga wasn’t going to satisfy me in that way. However, I absolutely loved it! I WILL be attending again this week. I felt so good after the class, even though I felt extremely relaxed, at peace and completely stress free, I felt as though I had had a good workout, even if it was just at a very low intensity. There were some exercises that were quite challenging but I enjoy that as I then have something to work towards and better myself. It was good to work at your own pace and there wasn’t an element of competition or ‘who’s fit who isn’t’ in the class which I loved! It’s a great class for those who may feel a little intimated to try the hard-core classes or lack in self-confidence as this was brilliant at tackling that – it was giving you the time to feel good with yourself and to push your fears out… well at least for one hour!
Don’t get me wrong I love a good fitness class such as circuits but it was great to feel so relaxed and completely stretched from head to toe. I will definitely be continuing this class along with my other fitness classes and would recommend anyone to give it a try – don’t knock it until you have tried it!
If you love yoga or you are thinking of giving it a try then please message me on your views and thoughts!
Happy Monday
