Good afternoon everyone!!
Thought I would share some of my tips for making small changes and getting/keeping active throughout your daily life. This is the type of information I help my clients with so count yourselfs lucky to be having a sneak peak.....
Tips for small changes….
1. My best tip for staying active is making a date with yourself to do something you enjoy. – for example, playing your music loud while doing some active housework or having a dance around the house. Finding an activity you love – its hard to find time and energy to be active, so try to change the focus from ‘exercise’ to ‘fun with friends’. Try a new activity, such as walking with friends two evenings a week. Go swimming at the weekends or find an exercise class and go along with the girls. You’ll find like-minded people, get fitter, and have a great time in the process. Some of my clients enjoy a family brisk walk 3-4 times a week after dinner, not only are they staying active but they are bonding together as a family. Some prefer to do exercises while watching their favourite programme or doing some cardio and crunches at the ad breaks in between programmes. These are all great ways of getting active. Aim 30 minutes of activity a day, this can be split into 10 minute slots depending on what works for you!! Give it a try and you wont be disappointed!
2. Little changes make the difference – taking stairs instead of an elevator, running up the stairs, a walk around the block after dinner or lunch. Everytime I go into the town centre I park on the top floor of the car park and walk down the stairs and walk back up them and it makes me feel great!
3. The best way to stick to an exercise/physical activity plan is to look at your weekly schedule and write in your planned activities where you know your energy will be at the highest. – time is short and this is very important! So if you work out better in the mornings, set aside time in the morning for you to have that desired work out! Once you fit it into your daily routine it will become natural to get up everyday and get on with it rather than seeing it as something you don't want to do but got to!
4. When trying to find a balance between diet and exercise, try replacing one habit with another. If you snack at night, make this time your workout time. If you’re hungry when you shouldn’t be go for a brisk walk or run up the stairs a few times – this will usually curb any cravings you had. Try to find something to do for 20 minutes when you have a craving, like chat to someone on the phone, send out the emails you’ve been meaning to do, etc. Having a distraction does really work, trust me!
5. Most people find the best way to keep fit is to walk whenever and wherever you can. Park your car further away so you need to walk that little bit further or walk to work/school. Get off the bus a few stops earlier so you can walk the rest. It all adds up and makes a difference.
Give these tips a go and see how you get on! By combining these all together it will make such a difference and you wont even feel as though you've changed much to fit it all in!
Good luck
