Inspired by the 2012 Olympics??

Afternoon everyone,

Are you all enjoying the London Olympic games? I certaintly have! I have really got in to it this year and it has inspired me to look at my fitness too, as I hope it has for many of you too.

Olympians become our heroes. Not only do they encourage us to dream big, but they inspire us to reach our goals. Let the Olympic games inspire you to reach your own fitness potential.... Now is a great time for you to reach for your weight-loss or get fit goals!

However, do you struggle to get the motivation or courage to get up and do something active? not to worry, many of us do too, including many athletes! So below is a selection of Olympic sports you can try and fit into your daily routine!

1. Swimming
Swimming is by far, one of the BEST full body workouts you can do! Not only is swimming great a low impact exercise for individuals that suffer from arthrities and joint pain, swimming is also a great aerobic exercise and can improve fitness. I Love swimming and have always found it is great for the mid rift area! I would usually do a 40 minute swim (casually) and would feel great after! It also gives me a great nights sleep too which is even better.

Swimming is also a great way to build lean body mass. While you're catching the coverage this year, notice the body shapes of the swimmers. They're some of the most lean and defined athletes at the entire games. This can translate to your workouts as well.

If you have been inspired by the swimming at 2012 Olympics then go to pool finder and find your local pool, click this link: http://t.co/S9CtjNhP

Give it a go and and see how quick you physique changes!!

2. Martial Art/Combat Sport (Taekwondo, Judo, Boxing, Greco Roman/Freestyle Wrestling)

Well, not only are these type of events great to watch but are also great to get involved in too. The entire physical/mental discipline of martial arts makes even more interesting and truly an Olympic sport!

These types of events can add several new levels to your workouts: strength and endurance, cardiovascular endurance and strength, aerobic and anaerobic training, mental discipline, and self-confidence. I have tried a bit of boxing before and kick boxing classes and I can truly say it is one of the best workouts! I leave the class feeling physically and mentally drained BUT that is what makes it so worthwhile! I like to know I have worked and these types of workouts really do work you both mentally and physically! Taking up something like this will also help you handle yourself in times of danger and I have personally found, and heard from others, that martial arts is a big stress reliever!

What more could you ask from a workout? Perhaps mix this into your current fitness regime once or twice a week to begin with and start to notice the difference!
TIP: Find a partner/friend that is interested in doing the same, one put on the gloves, the other the pads and punch as much as you can for 1 minute then swap and so on.

Strap on some gloves and spend some quality time with a heavy bag.

3. Triathlon (Swim, Run, Bike)

Why is this good for your workout? Cross-training in multiple areas helps create muscle confusion--the process of not letting your muscles adapt to your workouts--thereby helping you see gains in muscle mass and loss in body fat. Triathlon training can also be used to help cardiovascular and endurance fitness. This helps to lower your resting heart rate, which can also help alleviate cardiovascular health risks. By simply adding swimming, cycling, and running into your workouts, and pairing them up a couple times a week, you can get maximum benefit from this awesome event.
Again, what more could you need from a workout?

Give these workouts a go and see how you get on. Remember to take it slowly though and always research any type of class or exercise before taking them up if you have any type of condition such as asthma, arthritis, obesity, diabetes etc or any type of current or previous injuries.

Good Luck :)
